Happy New Year, Happy New Site.

Welcome to dancelog.nyc – we’re the new kid on the block, and we’re a ridiculous concept from the start – a website dedicated to dance reviewing.

Believe it or not, somebody has to do it.  We’re in an era when opinions are like assholes – everybody’s got one – but now everyone publishes them, too.  We think the job of a critic, especially now, is to have more than an opinion.  We’re hoping to offer you a sharp eye, a descriptive palette, a deeper analysis and a sense of context.  Hence our tagline, “look closely . . .”  It’s what we’re here to do.  Whether we like it or not, we take what we see seriously.

To see more on why we’ve taken on the job, see About dancelog.nyc.

Obviously, we’re not doing this for the bucks.  We’ve been around New York’s dance scene for several decades, and we love it.  We hope you’ll love us back.  If you do and want to support us, please read us regularly, discuss what we’ve written and share our articles on social media.  We’ll make announcements on Twitter and have a discussion page on Facebook.  If you’d like to read some “behind the scenes” observations about the craft of dance writing, visit my personal dance writing page, where I look at the issues and challenges behind a review.

There isn’t much here yet, but this is a busy week and both Martha and I will be seeing and writing.  Stick around and enjoy.
