Put This on Your Radar – January 30, 2017

A weekly, highly personal and subjective list of performances and artists we want you to know about:

Leigh says:

Douglas Dunn has been around a long time; “Antipodes” on Thursday, February 2 at 8 pm, (through Saturday) at Danspace Project marks his 43rd year making dances. His work has the assurance of craft you get when you’re older than dirt, but it hasn’t lost any youthful freshness: Watching a Dunn dance feels like a picnic of the most bracing delicacies. “Antipodes,” inspired by his company’s performances in Australia last year, looks at opposites, and opposing poles: Do you take the long way around, or tunnel directly through?

Peak Performances at Montclair State University offers consistently great work, worth the trek out to the Alexander Kasser Theater. This Thursday, February 2 at 7:30 pm, (through Sunday), MSU is presenting Richard Alston Dance Company, including the world premiere of “Chacony” (a commission by Peak Performances), and the American premieres of Alston’s “Mazur,” “An Italian in Madrid,” and Martin Lawrence’s “Stronghold.” (Photo credit: “Stronghold” James Muller.)
