Put This on Your Radar – October 17, 2017

A weekly, highly personal and subjective list of performances and artists we want you to know about:

Martha says:

Many iconic works of modern dance have found their way back to view in revivals by their own companies or by other dancers in homage. Ten years ago, in honor of Martha Graham’s inspirational “Lamentation,” a series of short works were commissioned by other artists, taking their inspiration from the genre-challenging work. This week at the Martha Graham Studio Theater (at 55 Bethune Street) the Graham Studio Series will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the “Lamentation Variations,” with two programs by some of the best and brightest of this generation of choreographers, in NEW@Graham. The October 17 program includes work by Kyle Abraham and a New York premiere by Lil Buck; the next night will include work by Aszure Barton and Richard Move. Larry Keigwin will show work both evenings, along with several other choreographers’ inspired takes on Graham’s classic. The programs will also include discussions with others who have created variations over this decade. Shows on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 17-18 at 7 pm.
