A weekly, highly personal and subjective list of performances and artists we want you to know about:
Martha says:
Gibney Dance is one of the few places in New York City still devoted to emerging artists and willing to offer resources and space for their explorations. In “Work Up 3.0,” three weeks of programming is being devoted to artists chosen for their “risk, relevance, and research” – which covers just about anything in contemporary dance, so we should be seeing some interesting, diverse, and brand new voices. This week, at Work Up 3.2 (April 14-15 at 8 pm), the artists are: effie bowen, IV Castellanos and Amanda Hunt, and Veraalba Santa. At Gibney Dance: Agnes Varis Performing Arts Center.
Leigh says:
Uptown, Columbia Ballet Collaborative is celebrating its 10th anniversary. It not only provides a performing outlet for the University’s students, it functions as a workshop for the city’s independent ballet choreographers. On Saturday, the group is presenting new works by Barry Kerollis and Craig Salstein as well as repertory pieces by Emery LeCrone and Claudia Schreier. That’s a periscope view of NYC’s rising ballet choreographers. This Saturday at 3 and 8 pm at the Miller Theatre.
