A weekly, highly personal and subjective list of performances and artists we want you to know about:
Martha says:
Artists go through many steps of development on the way to showing finished work, often depending on residencies for rehearsal space and funding. Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) offers several residencies to choreographers and performance artists of other disciplines, inviting them to periodically open their studios, wherever they are in their creative process, to the community. The spring showing for BAC’s 2018 residences will happen all day long this Thursday, in several different studio spaces. You can check out work-in-progress from performance artist Sacha Yanow, choreographers RoseAnne Spradlin, Jimena Paz, Ligia Lewis, or dance/theater artist David Neumann. By offering parallel residencies rather than sequential ones, as is often the case with arts organizations who can only offer one studio, BAC not only supports individual artists or companies. It creates a place for dialogue and exchange about the work. Join the conversation on April 12 starting at 11 am. It’s free, but space is limited; see the schedule and make your reservations here.
