A weekly, highly personal and subjective list of performances and artists we want you to know about:
Martha says:
As if Bebe Miller and Susan Rethorst weren’t each a treat enough on her own, they are coming together this week in “The Making Room.” The show explores the way dance is made and creates a richer understanding of the choreographic process by sharing it with the audience. Bebe Miller Company will present “In a Rhythm,” a work for six dancers built on texts by Gertrude Stein, Toni Morrison, and David Foster. It considers how different structures – both textual and in movement – are used to create meaning. Rethorst’s “Stealing from Myself” does just that: she pirates pieces of her work made over the last 30 years to build something new. Miller and Rethorst are using this joint program to look at their own and each other’s choreographic process, creating a whole that shines extra light on the individual parts. There’s an eBook coming, and a website to add to the exploration. Opens Wednesday, February 21 at 7 pm.
