Put This on Your Radar – July 3, 2017

A weekly, highly personal and subjective list of performances and artists we want you to know about:

Martha says:

Mallory Catlett is a cross-disciplinary artist who grapples with large subjects and offers a wide embrace. In her current work with Restless NYC, she presents the next segment of a language-based project, “Decoder 2017,” with part 2, The Ticket That Exploded.” At Mount Tremper Arts, the artist residency haven in the Catskills known for its experimental bent, Catlett is using the writing and prophecies of post-modern thinker William S. Burroughs to investigate the power of language and interpretation, the links between our bodies, technologies, and media. Catlett’s “dismantling and re-purposing of stories… is an attempt to create openings, to find a way out, and forward.” To help build this interactive performance installation, Catlett has enlisted sound artist G Lucas Crane and the expansive presence of director and filmmaker Jim Findlay, here as performer and instigator. We all own this mess, they remind us; time to face up to it. “Decoder 2017” is a three-part series; this work-in-process at MTA is being produced in partnership with the Chocolate Factory. You’ve only got one chance to see this version in the Catskills, July 8 at 8 pm.
