A milestone is being celebrated Saturday at Lincoln Center Out of Doors, when Dance Theatre of Harlem headlines the festival. DTH is an American dance pioneer, championing diverse casts and choreography, and reveling in the possibilities of ballet. At 4 pm, there is a panel discussion with current and former DTH dancers at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. At 7:30 pm, the company will dance a 50th anniversary collage of signature works. There is much to celebrate! Parisian singer ALA.NI is the opening act for the evening performance at Damrosch Park. Admission is free; seating is first come-first served. Saturday, August 4, panel at 4 pm, performance at 7:30 pm.
The first installment of Faye Driscoll’s “Thank You for Coming” was “Attendance.” The audience members were asked to share their names on entering, and were called out in the course of Driscoll’s droll, immersive dance. The cast invited the audience in with foil hats and party favors, as if in preparation for this week’s opening of the second installment of “Thank You for Coming,” called “Play.” This time, through stories, Driscoll’s dancers focus on how we identify and know one another, as well as our connections and miscues. They shine light on the many angles of relationships; the fun will be in jumping in to play with them. At Jacob’s Pillow in the Doris Duke Theater. Opens Wednesday, August 1 at 8:15 pm.
